The Character of Genuine Saving Faith Part 1

~Visible Mortality~  Matthew 19: 16-21 ; 23: 27 (New American Standard Bible)

19: 16-21
'And someone came to Him and said " Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may obtain eternal life?"  And He said to him, "Why are you asking Me about what is good?  There is only One who is good; but if you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments."  Then he said to Him, "Which ones?"  And Jesus said, "You shall not commit murder; You shall not commit adultery; You shall not bear false witness; Honor your father and mother; and You shall love your neighbor as yourself."  The young man said to Him, "All these things I have kept; what am I still lacking?"  Jesus said to him, :If you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me."

23: 27
'Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites!  For you are like whitewashed tombs which on the outside appear beautiful, but inside they are full of dead men's bones and all uncleanness.'

Commentary
In chapter 19 we read about the man asking Jesus about achieving eternal life.  By doing so he acknowledged his mortality to Jesus.  Showing visible mortality neither proves nor disproves one faith.  Know your mortality.  Have you given your life to Jesus and done as he commands?  This is the only way to truly achieve eternal life.

I wanted to talk about the character of a genuine saving faith. There are several parts to this and I will label them accordingly. I'm using this blog to discipline myself to read my Bible daily because I read everything as I write it. This is just the intro. to this segment so please go to "The Characteristics of Genuine Saving Faith Part 1".
